Just last month we took a dive into the key colour and design trends that were forecasted a little down the road, for 2024. What can we say, we love to be prepared! Today we dial back a tad, and refocus our attentions on the upcoming season of Autumn Winter 2023. As home decor obsessives it comes with the territory that we mull over colour and trends, and how these play into the worlds of home design. Being tapped into the upcoming trends in recent years has largely been helped by key authorities WGSN and Coloro, who release their tip offs based off tireless research. Without a minute to waist, with Autumn coming at us full throttle, we take a whip round the hues touted to colour this coming season.

Honeycomb

Honeycomb is the first colour to explore for this season, an integrally rich heritage hue which is of course rooted in nature, but also ancient civilizations. Great societies such as the Egyptians used this shade of ochre to bring warmth and underline the protective value of civility. Set to be a key accent colour for this season, it will be prevalent in fashion and homewares in particular. Here at Inside Out Living we can see this bearing out in the details of home decor, items such as art prints but also soft furnishings. The shade offers an upbeat, optimistic feel and as such we could imagine it flourishing as we head into 2023.

Jade

The natural world alongside the wellness of physical and mental health stays front and centre in the cultural psyche. Jade brings these soothing notions forward into this season, with an inherent calm. The milky tone is rooted in cultures and feelings of wisdom, equality and mindfulness. This tone will inform design trends in fashion, jewellery (of course) but also may prove a key influence in the home. With a broad use across multiple materials and surfaces. The shade will inform home decor inspiration for this coming season. Jade could well help colour elements such as pots & planters and tableware. The design team at Inside Out Living  certainly feels calmer just thinking about it!

Dark Oak

Rich and flavourful browns continue their rise with Dark Oak, a tone that really leans into the red and deep tones of burnished woods and dark lacquers. This hue speaks to a slowing down of pace, reminding us that heritage, timeless design and personal items should be of use through seasons, made for a long lasting life. As such, there’s a nostalgic feel and a nod to age-old industry that promotes longevity and the appreciation of the classic. Inside Out Living especially sees relevance with this colour with its application to dining furniture with various wood finishes and time honoured pieces for the home. We think Dark Oak could resurge in home design trends in storage pieces and coffee tables.

Lazuli Blue

Indulge yourself. The deep azure of Lazuli Blue speaks to a need to enjoy luxury and self preservation, but also acknowledge an interest in balance and origin of the self. Bold yet enriching, this tone will underscore a multitude of industries, spanning immersive art, tech, fashion and cosmetics. Importantly, it is likely to play a role in home decor inspiration too. It will be used either as an accent colour or in swathes of exaggerated volume for a statement. Inside Out Living sees shades surrounding Lazuli Blue used as an accent within home decor pieces such as arts prints and tableware.

Orchid Flower

Orchid Flower is actually WGSN’s colour of the year for 2022, a transeasonal pink meets purple tone that offers an eye-catching hue inspired as much by nature as it is precious luxury. The tropical orchid plant sits chief amongst its influence, with a long lasting bloom and distinct scent. This shade speaks to small luxuries and celebration.  An invigorating hue that transcends various design trends and industries. Used in metallics for jewellery and for fashion, especially partywear, whereas it is also used in select ornamental homewares. Inside Out Living sees this tone used in small doses as an accent colour. Delicate visual pieces like dried florals will benefit from this pop of vivid pink.

This vibrant note brings us to the end of our colour and design trends roundup for Autumn/Winter 2023. We take great pleasure and care in delving into these trend cycles as it’s always intriguing to see how the forecasting can play into what becomes popular, and which ones become new-classics.
