With the evenings drawing in faster and the light fading that little sooner, temperatures too begin to drop, and before we know it we’ll all be spending a bit more time indoors. For some this may be a less fanciful prospect, summer mourning is a thing! However, it doesn’t have to be this way, it needn’t be such a drastic shift. Today we’re sharing our tips on how to achieve a beautiful autumnal aura in your home. So, read on for our ideas on soothing autumn home decor.

Light Play Is Everything

Sometimes achieving a blissful relaxed aura at home is as simple as adjusting the lighting, or rather the lighting elements. To be clear we’re not suggesting simply toning down the dimmer switch and all is solved. No, it’s more nuanced than that and there’s factors to consider in what your home already has at its disposal. We think being able to achieve a dapple or a shimmer in your lighting will help transition into autumn, especially if you can throw light onto the elements or corners of your home that are deserving of some spotlighting.

Use what you already have – if you already have large windows with steady natural lighting, consider how and where this light falls. If it isn’t coming to an area of your home you think will benefit it, perhaps look to place a chic mirror in a strategic location to rebound that precious afternoon flicker. Not only does a mirror help with light play but the very style of the mirror can boost your decor style.

Other means and methods in getting the light where you want it are being open and playful with your current furniture configurations. Perhaps one wall in particular gets a nice evening glow every evening, but currently it’s pouring onto an open wall – if possible move a section of your room to reap the benefits of this lightshow. You’ll get the double positive of a refreshing furniture switch up. If that autumn home decor plan sounds a little too labour intensive or natural light simply isn’t on the cards, there’s plenty of opportunity to use other lighting. Lanterns, candles or skilfully placed lampshades are absolutely one way to get that amber flicker and ambience in place for the season. In particular a floor lantern that will sit in situ will help boost that golden hour autumnal glow, with some elegant and culturally informed designs to choose from your decor will only benefit from this, many of which can be placed indoors or out.

Natural World Elements

The transitions between seasons needn’t feel like a cut and dry process. We’re all for letting them bleed into each other and blurring boundaries. One such way in achieving that summer to autumn move is the incorporation of natural elements into your autumn home decor. There’s endless opportunity to do this with some well placed baskets, pots or planters filled with your chosen greenery. We tend to think the trio of Haldon baskets give a great home to taller green leafed plants or something exotic and long stem. Even if only using one or two of these, the remaining can easily be used for storage or simply as autumn accessories in their own right.

Another excellent method to bring both texture and outside elements inside are the use of ceramic planters. With a wide selection of finishes, styles and shades available you can either heavily lean into a more summery feeling planter or embrace earthy autumnal colours. Of course in actuality all planters can be used for absolutely any season, it’s how you style them and which plantlife you plump for that will help you define your decor for autumn.

Rotate or Replace Your Art and Accessories For The Season

Perhaps that patch of room or hallway is simply feeling stale, a little left behind and forgotten about. It’s all too easy to slip into what’s easiest and the familiarity of it all. This autumn home decor fix is as simple as it sounds – feel empowered and confident in switching things up. We’re all for rotating your art prints seasonally, especially with many options available in autumnal hues, but with uplifting subject matter. Also adding in new autumn accessories and visually stimulating pieces to tired feeling displays will do wonders, such as vases and dried flower arrangements. It’s how these elements interplay with each other that will help lock in your peaceful autumnal home aura. Now factor in the lighting and you’ve achieved your aim.
