Ceramic tabletops are a great addition to garden furniture as while they are thin, they are also durable, weather-resistant and scratch-proof – ultimately providing great protection. Another huge benefit of ceramic tabletops is that they require very little maintenance – in fact, simply cleaning your entire garden dining tables 2-3 times a year will suffice (subject to the occasional accidents and spillages that are bound to happen). Here is a guide on the ‘do’s and don’ts’ on the things that you should consider when caring for ceramic tabletop garden furniture.

Cleaning Your Ceramic Tabletop

Cleaning your ceramic tabletop is very low maintenance and does not require any fancy, nor expensive cleaning products. Most stains can be removed with water and ordinary, gentle dishwashing detergent and a sponge. For more stubborn stains, a dab of concentrated detergent can be effective. Always wipe the table down afterwards with a clean cloth. But, if you’re looking for extra shine, limestone cleaning gel works great, however, this not be practised on a daily nor weekly basis. It is important to note that you should avoid using ammonia-based products. Ammonia can break down the sealant between your garden furniture and the ceramic tabletop which can affect both the durability and usability of your garden furniture set as the top may become wobbly.

How To Properly Store Your Ceramic Tabletop Garden Furniture

Like many of us, having space to store garden furniture throughout the Autumn and Winter months can be difficult. If you are limited for space or are thinking of storing your garden furniture in space that may not be 100% waterproof (like a garage or shed), we would strongly suggest purchasing some protective covers. You should consider protective covers as an investment to prolong the life of your garden furniture and having fitted, waterproof and frostproof (yes, not tarpaulin) protective covers will really really help to do so.

The 4 Do’s of Caring for Ceramic Tabletops

  1. Use a wet sponge and mild detergent – your a stand detergent works absolutely fine
  2. Use limestone cleaning gel – this should not be used on a daily basis, but if you’d like to give your ceramic table top that extra glow, we would recommend using limestone cleaning gel. Limestone cleaning gel can be found easily online
  3. Avoid ammonia-based cleaners which can break down the sealant and possibly damage your garden furniture
  4. Store your garden furniture in a waterproof place – or purchase some outdoor furniture protective covers

The 3 Don’ts Of Caring For Ceramic Tabletops

  1. Use abrasive cleaning products
  2. Overclean – the less cleaning the better for ceramic. Just wipe the surface with a damp cloth or sponge and a mild detergent, like the soap you’d normally use in the kitchen. Yes, it’s that simple!
  3. Avoid the use of ammonia-based cleaners which can break down the sealant and possibly damage your garden furniture.

We hope that you take into consideration these ‘Do’s and Dont’s’ when cleaning, storing and enjoying your ceramic tabletop outdoor garden furniture this summer. For more information and guidance and caring for other outdoor furniture materials, check out our news and blogs section.
