Aside from the kitchen, the living room is one of the most used rooms in the house, this room is essentially used as a space to relax and unwind perhaps to read a book or watch the TV. Therefore, it is important to make your living room decor reflect the feelings of relaxation.

The interior design ideas in your home can make a significant difference to not only the look but the feel of your home and should also reflect your personality as well as the feelings you are trying to create.

We have collated some interesting interior design ideas you could implement within your home based on current trends as well as practicality.

1. Find The Perfect Lighting

A key feature within your living room decor is the lighting, the use of a good lampshade helps to diffuse the harsh light coming from the bulb and a soft ambient light can be created.

Another way that you can create different lighting is by using standing lamps, which creates a directional light, standing lamps placed in a corner next to an armchair can establish a beautiful reading nook. If you already have lamps available in your house to use that you’re not keen on why not try out a new lamp shade bringing your personality and style into the room with this.

2. Hang Some Mirrors

A large circular wall mirror such as the Higgins Round Antique Gold Mirror, within a large living room would look great above a fireplace, and the gold border would contrast beautifully with dark coloured paint. However, would look equally as beautiful within a neutral-toned minimalistic room.

3. Use Bold Colours

Whether bringing bold colours into your living room decor through accessories or paint, this is a trend inspiring a lot of people right now and can be achieved very easily. An example of this is using dark-hued paint on all the walls in your living room, previously a bold colour would have been used on a feature wall, however by using this throughout the room this manages to create a very sophisticated look with the right accessories and lighting.

A popular colour used when creating this look is blue, as this creates a sense of tranquillity & restfulness in the room, due to this colour requiring little adjustment to your eyes claims Ideal Home.

4. Introduce Velvet Furnishings

A way that this can be achieved is by incorporating a velvet sofa, this item will instantly create a statement piece within your living room and add appeal to your living space.

If a sofa is too much for you, why not bring velvet cushions into this room, these will add warmth and would work perfectly alongside a number of other cushions of different textures. We’d recommend our velvet cushions used within a neutral-toned room alongside the grey knit cushion. The dark green and yellow velvet cushions will not only add colour to the room but the velvet material will also add warmth to the feel of the room, whilst the grey knit cushion will break up the look in order to not overpower the room with an overload of velvet.

Another item that you could use to introduce velvet furnishings into your room is through a footstool, such as The Grey Velvet Footstool. This is a great addition to any living room as this requires little to no work to make this look good, this can be used as a footstool, an extra seat when needed and perhaps even as a table whilst using a tray on top to protect it.

Fill The Space With Storage Baskets

Baskets are a great accessory to use in living rooms, as these provide great storage room for things that don’t have a home within your room, throws are a great example of this, if you have lots of cushions on your sofa, and don’t want to leave the throw out as well, why not store these in a basket.

The Hampstead Storage Baskets are a perfect choice for storing your throws in, and if you don’t need all 3 why not utilise the others in other areas of the house. You could consider using these as an alternative to a plant pot, this is becoming increasingly popular, probably down to its unique look that is different from any plant pot on the market.

Wheel Out A Bar Cart

Why not consider adding this item into your living room decor. Including this in your living room means that you won’t even have to leave the room to grab your drink of choice and also adds to the aesthetics of your room.

Although not a trolley as such, our Bronze Side Table is an ideal piece of furniture that could be used to store your favourite drinks on, why not place some bottles on the top shelf and then store some aesthetically pleasing glasses to the bottom shelf, and there you have yourself a drinks cart ready to be used whenever you like.
